The Atlas Alliance has zero tolerance of any form of bullying, harassment, exploitation, and abuse (including sexual harassment, exploitation, and abuse), and recognizes its responsibility to safeguard children and adults at risk of harm.
Safeguarding
The Atlas Alliance has a Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy. The policy sets out the commitments made by the Atlas Alliance as a network of organizations of persons with disabilities.
All staff, collaborating organizations members, consultants, volunteers and others involved in Norway and our partner countries shall:
- be aware of the problem of abuse
- know their responsibilities as set out in the Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy
- design and undertake programs and activities in a way that protects people from any risk of harm
- follow up on reports of safeguarding concerns promptly and according to due process
What is safeguarding and child protection?
Safeguarding refers to the responsibility of organizations to make sure their staff, operations, and programs do not misuse their power and positions to harm children and adults at-risk nor expose them to abuse or exploitation. This term covers physical, emotional and sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse by staff and associated personnel, as well as safeguarding risks caused by program design and implementation.
Child protection is a central part of but not separate from safeguarding. It is the process of protecting individual children identified as either suffering or at risk of significant harm because of abuse or program design. It also includes measures and structures designed to prevent and respond to abuse.
